It’s a massive THANK YOU from Devon charity Dart Sailability after donations for its relocation appeal topped a whopping £15,000 in just one week!
Trustee of Dart Sailability Mike Pleass says: “The response to our £25,000 appeal has been absolutely incredible and we are truly grateful for the huge amount of support it has received. The media has given us fantastic coverage which has led to significant donations and as always, word of mouth has been very effective. We still have a way to go so hopefully we can keep the impetus up. Again, thank you to everybody who has helped us – we are delighted at the support we have got.”
The charity has been based at Noss on Dart Marina since 1997 but now has to quit after new owners Premier Marinas proposed £35,000 berth fees, access only on two week days with no access at weekends. Dart Sailability thanks MDL Marinas at Galmpton and Dolphin Boatyard Limited for its new facilities and moorings.
In 2018-19 Dart Sailability delivered 635 sailor days of activity supported by 860 volunteer days of activities and despite the Covid pandemic the charity found ways for some sailors and volunteers to safely enjoy some sailing on the river last summer. The charity (registered number 1155753) which was established in 1997 is run and managed purely by volunteers and is a Royal Yachting Association Recognised Training Centre and also a centre of excellence for Sailability in the South West. It has identified numerous tailored access points for disabled people along the River Dart so they can enjoy its beautiful scenery, heritage and wildlife. More information, including photos and videos, is available on its website www.dartsailability.org
