Oscar ceremony with a difference as two boats launched

Over 40 members and supported enjoyed our "Oscar Ceremony" when two new boats funded by generous donations were officially launched. R S Venture Oscar was funded by the Alan Goodenough Charitable Trust and Alan and wife Kay were on hand to pour some bubbly on her bows and on Chatty Mike, our new Hansa 303 dinghy named after Mike Matthews who sadly died during the pandemic. It is fitted with an electronic joystick allowing sailors more independence.

After the naming ceremony performed by Alan and Kay Goodenough who were introduced by Chairman of Trustees Neil Strevens, everybody enjoyed a slap up tea at the clubhouse thanks to social secretary Carrie Sawyer who organised the event. We would also like to say a huge thank you to everybody who made the day such a success - especially to our amazing cooks who donated delicious tea time treats!

Robert Boyd and Oscar. The boat is named after Alan's black Labrador and will afford adventurous sailing for our adrenaline demanding sailors!
