On Monday 12 July 6 sailors from Dart Sailability took advantage of the hospitality of Royal Dart Yacht Club and the hoist installed at Dart Haven courtesy of Dart Harbour and Dart Haven Marina, to sail on a different part of the river. 4 Hansas and Equaliser, our Hawk 20, were brought down from Galmpton by a team of volunteers. The sailors then set off to explore the lower reaches of the Dart. However a strong ebb tide and the sight of more wind soon had them setting out to sea with comments about lunch in the Channel Islands and concerns about lack of passports.
Eventually the Hansas had to be towed back and everybody repaired to RDYC where we had been given free use of the facilities to make tea and coffee and have our lunch on the terrace. The only disappointment was that the bar was not open.
If there is sufficient interest we hope to repeat this once a month in the weeks when tides prevent us sailing from Galmpton. Perhaps next time the bar will be open.
We are most grateful for the hospitality and support of RDYC and the assistance provide by staff at Dart Haven
