A warm welcome for our new Principal, Ian Wakeling

A few words from Ian

I joined Sailability recently with the aim of continuing to help people to share my love of sailing and have found everybody to be most friendly and helpful. I have been around boats almost all my life. I bought my first dinghy aged 11 and continue to race a Laser dinghy at Dittisham and an Enterprise at Cheddar. I have done some cruising and off shore racing including a Fastnet many years ago. As an RYA Senior Dinghy Instructor and Racing Coach who has introduced many children to sailing and racing I am looking forward to helping a new group of prospective and current sailors share my enjoyment of being out on the water. My favourite quote is paraphrased from Ratty in Wind in the Willows “There is nothing so good as messing about with boats”.

My wife Cherry and I recently moved to Dittisham after a career in Naval Ship Design and Project Management. As Principal I  hope to use my management experience to help Dart Sailability to meet its future challenges and grow to meet the needs of current and future members. I welcome any comments, suggestions or questions and wish you all good boating on our beautiful river.
