Dart Sailability Returns to the Water

Following the frustrations of lockdown and then seeing others getting back out on the water a number of members got out on the river Dart on Tuesday. One small group had a trip up towards Dittisham and then down to Dartmouth on the ARC while another group sailed our new specially adapted Drascombe Longboat, Kanata. Kanata has been specially fitted with an adjustable seat and wheel steering to allow sailors with a wide range of disabilities to sail the boat.

The arrangements for Tuesday were developed with advice and guidance from the Royal Yachting Association through the development of  detailed Risk Assessment and special procedures developed to ensure safe boating within the constraints of social distancing and limitations on group sizes. All members are required to confirm that they have read and understood these documents.

We now plan to offer boating to members on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays through August and September. It is hoped that as many members as possible will be able to enjoy the freedom of being out on the river and in particular enjoying the new experience offered by Kanata. However, due to limitations on group sizes we have to operate an advance booking system. Sailors please contact Gill Pendlebury saying what you would like to do and what days. Volunteers please let Bob Miller know when you can help. Please submit requests by end of Friday for the following week. Bookings will be confirmed on Sunday.
