Our boats Kanata, Oscar and Equaliser joined another 30 varied vessels for the annual Dittisham Regatta. Juliet, her carer and Roy were supported by Gerry and Chris and were guests of the South West Gaffers' Association and the race featured 18 gaff-rigged boats of all ages, shapes and sizes. Kanata took part in the annual Parade of Sail and the Old Gaffers' Race where she came 12th taking handicaps into account. Our RS Venturer competed with Brian and Fiona supported by Pete and Equaliser our Hawk 20 was sailed by Robert and Colin with help from Chris and Bob joined another 15 dinghies in races held by Dittisham Sailing Club. The first race saw the slowest boats start first with faster boats trying to catch up. Fiona had a huge challenge - to catch up with Sam, her sister. Unfortunately they didn't quite make it but Fiona says: "If you had said to me a year ago I would be in a regatta this year I would have run a mile!" The second race was the club's Ton Up Cup - every year that the combined ages of the helm and crew exceed 100, there is a handicap advantage. Despite the largest advantage, Robert and Colin were unable to beat Sam and helm and Oscar beat Equaliser in both races. A fabulous day was had by all and for the lucky crew of Oscar, they even managed to fit in a cream tea between the races! Fiona says: "There was a good wind and it was exhilarating to be going so fast and having so much fun." Many thanks to all our sailors and volunteers who contributed to make this event so enjoyable.
