Despite cooler weather, wind and rain there was a superb turn out for the last sailing session of the season. Some 30 plus sailors and 30 odd volunteers attended with every boat in use. The steadily increasing wind provided some challenging and exciting sailing in the wide open waters between Galmpton and Dittisham whilst the powerboats explored down river. Even the torrential shower cold not wash away the smiles on the faces of many of the sailors.
Once everybody returned to shore they found a superb BBQ waiting for them masterminded as ever by our wonderful Social Secretary, Carrie. She was ably supported by Kathryn with James Wrigley producing excellent burgers at the fire pit and not to forget Barbara and Dennis Muxworthy's giant marshmallows which went down a storm.
Foregoing the BBQ some of the volunteers tried out an RS Venture Connect kindly loaned by RS Sailing for trials. The fickle weather provided flat calm and strong gusts for this first sail. The boat performed well. Further trials will be conducted with sailors over the rest of October with a view to making a decision on whether to purchase one for next season. Any sailors and volunteers interested in trying the boat should contact Ian or Anna.
