Final Sailing Session this Year

For our final sailing session this year it was almost the perfect autumn day, with blue sky, warmth (after the chilly start to the day) and a late morning high water. So, perfect for being outdoors but unfortunately the weather gods had run out of wind. In contrast to so many of our sessions this year, the five intrepid Hansas and Kanata played a new game of hunt the puffs of wind while ARC went exploring. Some of the time they sailed, and some of the time they drifted on the very gentle currents, and sometimes they paddled – Anna and Sam started the latter when an errant jumper went for a swim and a novel jumper overboard recovery drill was put into practice. Safety took paddles from the support boats so that Anna and Sam could do a self-rescue, after which they paddled everywhere.

Meanwhile Nab went on her own nature expedition to the environs of Mill Creek to take in the scenery and wildlife.

A great turnout of sailors and volunteers then had a wonderful get together in the sunshine at the Clubhouse with no less than five different cakes to keep us going until home for lunch. Many thanks to all the cake bakers and suppliers.
A lovely relaxing end of season.
Thanks to Cass and Chris Wood for the photos.
We now switch into winter maintenance mode and a programme of monthly social events including talks on varied subjects at the village Institute in Galmpton, and our Christmas Lunch (already booked for 17th December). The full programme is being worked on and will be published soon.
