RYA Sailability Multiclass Regatta

The RYA kindly lent a pair of 2.4mR single seat keelboats to Brian and Robert to compete in the Sailability Multiclass Regatta held at Portland on the 6th and 7th July. Compared to our Hansas they have a multitude of controls to play with including a whisker pole for downwind. They are quite easy to sail albeit complicated to sail to their full potential which was reflected in our results, we escaped coming last and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of a mini performance keelboat.

On the Saturday morning a pursuit race was followed by fleet racing in the afternoon. In the afternoon session the wind was gusting 16 knots which produced a small chop. In these conditions the 2.4mR is a wet boat with spray over the bow and a waterfall over the lee side, good job they have a bilge pump. Sunday followed with more fleet racing, lighter shifting wind proving a challenge for the race organiser necessitating postponements whilst relaying the course marks.
